Flashback Week

We here at Exfanding Your Horizons have made the unprecedented decision to follow through on something we promised in our three-year celebration: we're preparing for a flashback week, bookended by Alex's regular Waiting for Wednesday column, to go back in time and discuss some geeky (and most likely quite heartfelt) stories from our youths.

Assuming we stick to the plan, you can expect to hear at least one tale each from elementary school, middle/high school, and college. Or, if you prefer not to dwell on the educational system as a means of measuring time, we'll be looking at our pre-teen, teen, and post-teen years.

If you've been following this blog for any length of time, you might be expecting us to spin yarns about baseball, video games, comics, and science fiction. Writing about our younger days (and really, we're not all that old) provides ample opportunity to flesh out the roots of our favorite interests, as well as to surprise you with stories of the fandoms that we have somehow avoided mentioning all this time.

There's a wealth of untapped history to share. If there is anything in particular you'd like to hear about, we welcome your feedback in the comments section (and you don't need to register an account to leave a comment--that's how much we love you).

Can't wait! I always say that the experiences you have when you're young play a large role in the type of fandoms you get into and also the extent. Many of people's favorite games are some of the first they played, and I would assume that is universal for all fandoms as well, but gaming is the most prominent one I have experienced.

This may be completely unrelated to the next few days, but I would one day like to hear the story of how you came up with your Flashman 85 username, if there is a cool story behind it.

I am also completely aware that you may have just selected the "add a number" option when you tried "Flashman" but you never know.

Indeed! And the story of my handle is exactly as you said: "add a number."
